Mission Statement

To facilitate growth and movement through a particularly difficult time in what might be the “darkest hour” for Families Enduring Criminal Trauma.

We are here to help.

Our Members (the beneficiaries):

Through no fault of their own the families and friends of offenders can suffer great hardship.

  • Most members of AFFECT have experienced for themselves, having a close relative sent to prison. They are aware of the lack of information and support available to families and friends, and have come together to provide a range of support services.
  • AFFECT offers support and practical guidance to those who have a member of their family accused of a serious crime.
  • AFFECT aims to provide a sensitive, non-judgemental, individually tailored service to support families from the time of arrest, through the trial, during imprisonment and after release,  for as long as necessary.

AFFECT seeks to raise the profile of the plight of prisoners’ families; the hidden victims of crime, which includes the families’ of the accused and those convicted.

AFFECT does this by public speaking, workshops and presentations.

We support the families and friends by giving:

  • Personal support
  • Supporting at court during the trial.
  • Helping getting a family member to a visit
  • Providing group support
  • Training of individuals and other organizations
  • Disseminating information; leaflets and posters, our own publications, a regular news bulletin, videos, and via the website.
  • Signposting.
