Tricia DTreasurer

I joined AFFECT in August 2010 after looking into  voluntary work, I liked the concept of AFFECT in that they were supporting the familes of relatives that had commited a crime.

Following a relative of mine commiting a crime, I felt alone and abondoned, even though this was a minor crime the feelings are the same, the shame, embarrsement and lonlieness, I would have lilked some one to talk to at this time.

I have now been supporting and befriending relatives for over a year

Sister Mary Joy – Acting Secretary

I have been a Sister of an Anglican Religious Community since 1985, and professed just over 3 years later. Prior to joining the Community, soon after leaving school I worked for the Oxfordshire Probation Service as a Secretary, part of which entailed working in Oxford Prison with the Prison Welfare Officer and also worked as a volunteer at the Hostel for Discharged Prisoners.

Veronica - Life member and supporter, Veronica was the first Chair of AFFECT and edited AFFECT publications.

Brenda Scott-Cleary - Life member and supporter, Brenda was the first Treasurer.

Holly W – “AFFECT has been a huge support for me since 2004. Following my Dad’s arrest in 2003, I had no-one to turn to for questions, advice, or support. I was a very frightened and confused young person. The reason for my Dad’s arrest was an extremely difficult subject to talk to anyone about. AFFECT helped me by listening, believing and understanding my concerns, feelings, worries and pain, when there was no-one else.
I am so grateful to be a member of AFFECT and to now be on the Board of Trustees for the Charity. I am beginning to feel stronger as I know I am not alone with my painful experiences or difficult feelings. Sharing with other members of AFFECT, and having understanding of my situation, has made such a difference. I no longer feel I was the one arrested, as I felt back in 2003/2004. Quite often, the families of the person who has been accused of a crime, are forgotten about. AFFECT is there to remember these people and allow them to speak.
I do so hope AFFECT can continue to provide this invaluable support for family members. I have benfited from all the help and still benefit from speaking with a Counsellor on a Weekly basis, and meeting people at Group Gatherings and other events. It’s also great to be able to give something back by being a Trustee and being a part of such a needed and worthwhile charity.”
